Export Service Certificate to the Client

 

First, you need to export the service certificate (without the private key!!!) to a file:

On the computer with ARWebService installed:

a)       Log on as an administrator.

b)       Click Start -> Run, type mmc, and then click OK.

c)       I n the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in and then click Add.

d)       Under Snap-in, double-click Certificates.

e)       Click Computer account, and then click Next.

f)        Click Local computer and then click Finish.

g)       This snap-in allows you to manage local computer certificates.

h)       Click Close.

i)         Click OK.

j)         Expand the tree and select the service certificate stored in the Personal\Certificates folder.

k)       Right click on it, choose All Tasks and click Export.

l)         Click Next.

m)     Select "No, do not export the private key" and click Next.

n)       Select for example "DER encoded binary X.509 (.CER)" and click Next.

o)       Select a path where the certificate should be temporarily stored (e.g. C:\MyCert.cer) and click Next.

p)       Expand the tree and check that the service certificate is stored in the Personal\Certificates folder.


 

Now import the service certificate on the client computer from the cert file created in the previous steps:

  1. On the client computer:

a)       Log on as the user that will use the client application.

b)       Download the file with the certificate (created in the previous steps) from the computer with ARWebService installed.

c)       Click Start -> Run, type mmc, and then click OK.

d)       I n the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in, and then click Add.

e)       Under Snap-in, double-click Certificates.

f)        Click "My user account" and then click Next.

g)       Click Local computer, and then click Finish.

h)       This snap-in allows you to manage certificates for the current user.

i)         Click Close.

j)         Click OK.

k)        Expand the tree and right click the Personal folder, choose All Tasks and click Import.

l)         Click Next.

m)      Select the file with the certificate and click Next.

n)       Click Next.

o)       Click Finish.

  1. Check that the certificate has been correctly installed on the client computer:

a)       Log on as an user that will use the client application (if not logged).

b)       Click Start -> Run, type mmc, and then click OK.

c)       I n the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in, and then click Add.

d)       Under Snap-in, double-click Certificates.

e)       Click "My user account" and then click Next.

f)        Click Local computer and then click Finish.

g)       This snap-in allows you to manage certificates for the current user.

h)       Click Close.

i)         Click OK.

j)         Check that the service certificate is stored in the Personal/Certificate folder.
